Thanks to Paris Hilton and the Kardashians, most people know what a "selfie" is. This fad has dominated all social media platforms, whose to say animals can't join in on the fun? These animals wanted to strike and pose and make sure the camera caught their good side.
The Tongue Pose
The whole sticking your tongue out thing while taking a picture has never quite made sense. When you're a little kid it's the same thing as giving someone the bird, but once you're older, is it supposed to be attractive?
Either way, this adorable pug gets a pass because he can't help himself. Why? because he's a dog and that's what dogs do. He does look like he's been watching his owner practice in the mirror. 10/10 form. Good boy.
This Is Their Crew
We all have seen this one before. A group of bros about to go out on the town and have a blast. But don't forget, these are some serious bad boys but it's still essential everyone sees how fresh they look tonight.
So, although they are still totally going to put this selfie on Instagram, they have to mean mug the camera so everyone remembers that they're hard. Yet, apparently just not hard enough for selfies. All that these animals are missing are their $10 gold chains and a 40oz from 7-Eleven.
Night In With the Bestie
By the looks of it, these two hounds decided to take it easy for the night and spend their evening taking as many selfies as possible. Some with filters, some without filters, some with the tongue in, some with the tongue out, the opportunities are endless.
These dogs will have fully documented their evening together. If they eventually get the perfect selfie, they may even post it on social media to talk about how they're too old to go out even though this is the first time they haven't in the last six months.
Just Woke Up, WBU?
This baby sloth is potentially one of the cutest things to have ever walked this earth. If I was him I'd take a picture of myself too. How he got his hands on a smartphone, we're not sure, but we're glad he did.
It appears that he's woken up from a little nap in his box when the lighting was perfect, an opportune moment for a selfie. He couldn't stall a moment longer, so he stretched himself out and snapped a quick one.
A Llama Abroad
This happy llama looks like he decided to take a few weeks off to travel the world. He's apparently one of those tourists who isn't just satisfied with a landscape photo, he has to be in it so people know that he was there too.
However, I'll give it to him, he does seem pretty thrilled to be out of the office. Also, if you look closely, that's the same village from the film The Emperor's New Groove. Maybe that llama is Kuzco...
Hello, It's Me
This pup clearly has no lack of self-confidence, and by the looks of it, this is not their first selfie. The lighting is perfect, and the pose on point with the closed eyes and everything. This is clearly no amateur, this dog takes pride in its craft.
Such a selfie also takes a lot of skill to nail on the first shot with your eyes closed. The framing is impeccable, so if you ask me, this was not just a quick selfie. Some serious time, effort, and love went into this picture.
Two Brothers on an Adventure
Something tells me these two lion cubs have strayed away from the pack for their first time. But, of course, they have to document the moment to show their other siblings that they actually did it, they just can't tell mom.
The quality of the photo looks like these cubs got their hands on an iPhone 7, I mean, look at that portrait mode. If their mom does end up finding out and gets mad at them, she at least has to give them credit for their photography skills.
Drunk at the Club
It appears that this pug decided to go out and ended up having one too many. She was probably in the middle of taking a bathroom selfie when her friend in the back reminded her that they had leftover Chinese food back at the apartment. The result was this beautiful picture.
Then, she probably forgot about this picture until she scrolled through her photo library a week later and found it. She probably sent it into her best friend group chat with the caption, "That moment when..."
By the looks on this dog's face, it's safe to bet that this selfie was not taken for this dog's pleasure. If anything, he looks ashamed. If I had to bet, his mother wanted to know if he lied to her about where he was going and made him text her a selfie of where he is.
However, it's hard to say if he's in the process of getting busted, or his friends are out of frame laughing at him. Whichever it is, I hope this dog's day turns around. Nobody should look like that in a selfie.
In 2011, this 11-year old monkey named Naruto took photographer David Slater's camera while he was on an assignment in Indonesia. The animal rights organization PETA argued that republishing the photo was an infringement on Naruto's rights. Slater said he will donate 25% of any future revenue acquired from the photo to charities that protect crested macaques like Naruto.
The issue began when it was posted to Wikipedia, in which the person who posted it said it was uncopyrightable since it was taken by an animal. This led to complex legal questions in which PETA sued the individual that posted the picture, the court agreed with the defendant, yet PETA appealed.
Anything for the Selfie
What we have here is what appears to be one of those individuals willing to risk their life for a cool photo. Looking at this lemur's facial expression, something tells me that there's something big running behind him, and fast, and he's patiently waiting for the perfect moment to snap a pic.
We have seen in this many situations around the world. Taking a selfie during the running of the bulls in Spain, while swimming with sharks, or even dangling from a building. It's almost as if there's an unspoken competition as to who can get the riskiest selfie. This lemur looks like he's about to take the cake.
Dropping the Hottest Album of 2017
One thing is certain with these primates, they aren't monkeying around. These are the two most serious monkeys in that part of the neighborhood. They undoubtedly run the entire block. Once again, although selfies aren't necessarily the manliest thing to do, it's better to take a selfie and have yourself known than not be known at all.
When these two aren't busy keeping everyone in check in the neighborhood, you can find them in their grandmother's basement producing their latest rap album. They are probably going to use this selfie for their mixtape cover photo. Just look at them, it's gonna be fire.
This puppy is pulling the classic, "just got home from work" selfie. It's a well-executed shot in the way that it manages to show how tired he is, without sacrificing his good looks. This kind of artistry isn't learned overnight, nor is it usually accomplished in one shot.
Yes, they may have got off work at 4 pm, but this picture wasn't actually taken any earlier than 6 pm. That's called dedication people. This puppy proves that taking a selfie isn't just a waste of time or narcissistic, but is a skill that needs to be practiced and hones to perfection.
A Proud Father
From what I can tell, this father dog overcame all odds in order to get the fireplace in his house working. Against all odds and the doubt from the rest of his family, he worked tirelessly on it before he finally got it going.
Still used to new technology, he attempted to take a selfie with the fire in the background to send in his family group chat to prove them all wrong. No smile or anything, just solid proof that he got it to work and a follow-up text that they aren't allowed to enjoy it with him.
This feline was caught red-handed in the act of taking a selfie. Not only was she exposed, but she was even found on the floor trying to find the best position and lighting in the entire house. it looks like she thinks that if she stops moving people won't see her. Well, we do, busted kitty.
I'm willing to bet that she still asked to see the picture that was taken of her and discovered that she really liked it since it is basically two selfies at once. What could get better than that?
The Mid-Fight Selfie
From this selfie, it looks as though a scuffle began to start outside of the local Chihuahua watering hole. Somebody drank a little too much and started sniffing some other dog's girls you know what. From there, the two-started growling and it turned into an all-out free for all of the little dogs.
Luckily, this Chihuahua was in the right place at the right time and was able to capture a nice shot of him with the brawl in the background. This is the reasonable response, right? Instead of trying to diffuse the situation, snap a quick selfie to show everyone that you saw a fight!
"I Did Something"
This little sloth looks like he's taking a classic sorority girl selfie with the oh so clever caption, "I did something". Whether it's cutting off 10 inches of your hair to keep up with trends, getting a new septum piercing, or trying out your new Naked makeup palette, you have to let the world know.
So what better way to do it than by posting a selfie? This lazy mammal looks fresh out of the salon and can't wait to show everyone what he's done. New hairdo, mascara, and even got some highlights done. He's definitely ready for the club tonight.
The Front Camera Selfie
If you've never taken a forward camera selfie while laying down, this is what it looks like. There's no Snapchat filter in existence that can eliminate all of the flaws that are exposed when taking this kind of selfie.
Not only does this dog look like he's made the fatal mistake of taking one, it looks as though he has also done it unintentionally. That fear in his eyes is his realization that's how he actually looks and it will haunt him for the rest of his days. If you ever want to feel self-conscious about yourself, give this one a try.
The Mid-Festival Selfie
This dog looks like he was at his favorite music festival when he decided to take this selfie. After hours of getting ready and months of outfit planning, he took this selfie thinking that he looks just as good as when he walked out the door this morning.
Instead, he looks like some wild-eyed beast that that may or may not have taken a funny looking vitamin earlier that day. Probably for the best to not share this one on Facebook for your entire family to see. Party on dawg!
By the looks of it, this puppy isn't actually the big dog's baby. It's most likely a sibling, cousin, or close friend's child. However, recently the dog caught a case of baby-fever and is vicariously living through someone else's baby by pretending it's their own.
This means taking selfies with them and posting on social media saying how happy you are and how much they have changed your life even though the baby doesn't have an Instagram, nor is it your child. But hey, whatever floats your boat.
These ponies clearly just underwent a three-hour salon session in order to get their manes the perfect texture, color, and length in preparation for their senior prom A.K.A The best night ever! Unaware that every extra salon treatment they received costs more money, their fathers are going to be unpleasantly surprised when they receive their credit card bill the next month.
But who cares? It's senior prom and it only happens once. So, what better way to commemorate the night with than with a selfie with your best friends while each of you tries to be in the center of the picture.
We all have that one friend that's a little too overzealous about taking pictures, especially selfies. You can't even enjoy a nice afternoon walk without them insisting that you guys take a few selfies because it didn't happen unless you have evidence, right?
It appears this cat is no different and has a friend like that too. As his friend rolls around in the grass shouting, "Take a selfie of us!" the cat unamusingly takes out his phone and takes a picture, lying to his friend that it came out great.
New Glasses, New Me!
It looks like this adorable little guy went down to Forever 21 and picked up a pair of $10 non-prescription glasses. This way, when they put them on, it can help to boost their outfit and self-esteem. Of course, right after purchasing them, they had to take a selfie and post it on social media so everyone thinks they got real glasses.
Through the comments, they are reinforced that they look good in glasses even though they will never understand the struggle of actually having to wear glasses to see things, not just when it's convenient. But hey, they got over 100 likes!
Step Up, Bro
Something tells me that this wiener dog was just openly disrespected either on social media or in public. So now, obviously, he has to make it clear to everyone that he's a big bad dog and that he won't let people walk all over him. So, what does he do?
He walks down to his local park and takes a selfie looking as bad as he possibly can. Then he puts it on Instagram with the caption, "If you want to come into my neighborhood and disrespect me we have a problem. I'm done playing games. Step up, bro. #respect #onlygodcanjudgeme" You tell em' bud.
The First College Party
Your parents just dropped you off, your dorm room is set up, what's next? Go to your first college party of course! You arrive at your first party and it's wild! There's dancing, a DJ, and there are more people in one house than you've ever seen in your life.
So, of course, you have to take a selfie to show everyone how much fun you're having in college and that your school "goes harder" than all of these others. In the middle of the madness, you snap a picture while you're raging and send it to all your friends. This is exactly what it looks like.
Sad Pup Needs Attention
Here we have what appears to be a very sad and alone puppy that needs some attention. What better way to let people know you're hurting inside than by posting a selfie on social media to show and express your inner pain.
I'm sure this dog got nice and worked up for this selfie, and maybe even pawed at his eyes for a bit in order to add some extra flare to the picture. It's almost guaranteed that the caption is a quote from a band like Dashboard Confessional or maybe My Chemical Romance. Years down the road this dog will stumble upon this picture and re-evaluate his whole life.
This is the exact picture that people spend hours lying on their living room floor trying to accomplish. A perfect selfie featuring you on the ground, with your favorite pet sitting right behind you acting like it's totally normal.
However, these pals took it to a whole other level. Not only is this a picture of a human and a lion cub, but the lion is the one taking the picture with his favorite human peering in the background. A true work of art, way to set the bar, bravo you two, bravo.
Monkey See, Monkey Do
Although nobody really understands why people take pictures of statues, let alone a selfie with them, these monkeys needed to document the moment when they finally saw the statue that looks just like them.
Even though anybody can google just about any statue in the world, apparently, taking a picture with a shaped piece of rock is too important to pass up. However, I'll give it to these monkeys that this is probably the only statue they will ever come across that looks exactly like them. So, I guess that makes it picture worthy.
Sneaking in a Picture
This looks like a classic club or party scenario where this dog's friend is finally making a move on the girl he's been looking at all night. In order to be able to have a funny memento for the night, he decides to take a sneaky selfie of the moment when it happens.
Yet, instead of capturing the beautiful moment when his friend is successful, he captures the exact moment of total rejection. Although it's not what he was expecting, it's an equally effective picture to describe the night.
A Dream Come True
This dog did the only sensible thing to do whenever anyone stumbles upon a litter of puppies. Take a picture with them. A picture like this doesn't need to be shared with anyone on the internet, or in person.
This is one of those selfies that you keep on your phone for yourself. Whenever you're having a bad day, it is something to look at to cheer yourself up, or it might be a nice surprise if you stumble upon it when you forgot you ever took it.
This is a perfect picture to capture the essence of parenting within the last five years. What we have here looks like a father spending some quality time with his newborn pups. The mother of the litter is so proud of him and their newborns that she just has to document the moment for all of her Facebook friends to see.
This selfie is particularly funny because this is one of the most realistic selfies we have seen yet. The mother looks beyond thrilled and the father knows that he's going to receive some serious grief from his pals next time they grab a beer together.
Freshly Showered With Fresher Sheets
This kitty is eager to let the world know that not only did she just take a nice evening shower, but she also managed to wash her sheets, making it the perfect occasion for a glass of wine and a chapter of her favorite book before bed.
Chances are, this was only sent to specific people that she wanted to know that she just got out of the shower, or to people that she wants to think that she's mature and responsible.
Aside from just the room, this young retriever looks like an actual young teenage girl. The smile with the tongue out, the bedding, the background, and the youthful face has 9th grade written all over it.
Chances are, she recently upgraded to her first smartphone and has to practice the art of taking selfies before she can go around putting them on social media or sending them to boys. Yet, she still has to practice while her dad's out of the room. Keep up the good work girl, you'll get there.
High on Life
Apparently, this pooch is just excited to be outdoors. He could be trail running or even riding a bike, but either way, he looks incredibly satisfied. Hopefully, he will end up posting this selfie somewhere where others can see and hopefully be inspired by his enthusiasm and drive to explore the world around him.
After this jaunt, he's more than likely to head to his local coffee shop and read about which type of dog food is better for overall digestive health and maybe grab an acai bowl while he's there.
Nothing quite makes a statement like wearing sunglasses inside. It's a tell-tale sign that there's one bad dog in the room. This doggo is so stylish that he's pulling the whole look peer over the sunglasses look to show everyone that he's barking at that he means business.
Usually, if you're the guy wearing sunglasses inside, it means a couple of things. You've been smoking a little bit of the devil's lettuce and you want everyone to know, or you just had an emotional breakdown about your ex-girlfriend. You be the judge.
Do You Even Lift, Bro?
Chances are this little bird's name is Chad. In his free time, he likes to lift heavy weights, crush brewskies, and haze little chicklings. Oh, did he mention that he's the president of his fraternity at State? How did he forget to leave that out?
When he's not disappointing his mother, he's more than likely seeking tutoring for his statistics class or promoting how awesome his fraternity is at the local watering hole. Look at that haircut, this bird clearly has his priorities straight.
Amidst all of the chaos, this stunningly docile ostrich managed to capture the moment when she, her gals, and her favorite man headed out for an afternoon walk in the reservation.
It's almost as if she said, "Hey, smile!" to her human friend in order to get the perfect picture. This is definitely an Instagram worthy picture to show everyone how much fun the two of them had the other night. On a side note, those googly ostrich eyes tell me she has a little something going for him as well.
This kitty looks like he just got his first smartphone and discovered the magic of the selfie. Who better to take his first one than with his own mother right as she wakes up from a nap.
This picture probably went something like this: "Mom, wake up! Selfie!" Just as her eyes opened, the picture was taken, and the rest was history. She will forever be memorialized in this picture as a half-awake, tired mother. Odds are, this picture will probably be floating in cyberspace for the rest of eternity.
Everyone likes going to the beach, especially this kangaroo! It looks like they have the beach all to themselves, so obviously, it's time for a selfie. Hopefully, this kangaroo saves this photo for the perfect opportunity in the winter to put on social media with the caption, "I'd rather be at the beach than at the library".
It's okay little kangaroo, everyone feels the exact same way. Hopefully, you brought your surfboard, the waves look pretty good!
This very well may be this pooch's first smartphone. It looks like they discovered the magic of the front-facing camera and took a picture without even knowing. It's either that, or he's a dad FaceTiming his son in college for the first time.
It's almost as if he doesn't quite know who he's looking at. "Is that me or somebody else?" He'll probably never know. However, he must have some knowledge of technology, he even has a laptop with a wireless mouse!
